At the start of tonight's Girls' League matches in the Cotswold Floorball League five teams were still in a position to reach the final and no team was safe from elimination. By the end o the day a finalist was known and three other teams remain in contention for a place in the final.
Blockley started their evening well, shocking favoured team St James & Ebrington when ABC scrambled the ball home off an unlucky defender, giving the keeper no chance. St James & Ebrington pressed forward for the rest of the match and had two gilt edged chances, both saved by HJ in the Blockley goal.
Dormer House also had hopes of reaching the final, needing three wins to be sure of their place. Goals from SCa and SCo against Blockley sealed the first win. The second win, against Mickleton, was won by the same score, SB netting both times. The match against Ilmington was one of constant Dormer House attacks, only to find EF an impregnable defence. ES was doing just as well at the other end until an Ilmington move up the left wing found CC unmarked and able to sneak the ball home for the only goal of the game. Sitting on 15 points, Dormer House now have to wait and see what happens in next week's matches. In the last match N Cotswold SF removed Blockley's last chance of reaching the final when MA scored the only goal of that game. RS again kept her team in the game as Blockley tried to get the two scores they needed.
All these results left Bourton on the Water still on top of the table with no possibility of finishing lower than a clear second place and a place in the final 'in the bag'. Dormer House, St James & Ebrington and Temple Guiting (holders) still have a chance to reach the final. The holders have the best chance, with four matches still to play.
Next week there will be five matches in the Girls' League. and five matches in the final qualifying stage of the 'A' Team competition.
